Founded in 1923 in Pittsford, New York, Monroe Golf Club began when members of the former Genundewah Golf Club sought a permanent home. They selected a 214-acre site of glacial moraine, which legendary architect Donald Ross praised for its natural "sandy subsoil" and rolling terrain. Ross was commissioned in December 1923, and the course officially opened on July 4, 1924. It is celebrated as one of the most faithfully preserved Ross designs in the country. Since 1937, the club has hosted the Monroe Invitational, a premier amateur tournament that has featured future stars.
