Founded in 1898, Minikahda is the oldest country club west of the Mississippi . The club hosted the US Open in 1916 when Chick Evans became only the third amateur to capture the trophy and it was just after this competition that Donald Ross redesigned the course to it's much-loved current layout. 11 years after the Open, Bobby Jones won his third U.S Amateur title, defeating Chick Evans in the final, 8 & 7.
