The course opened in 1968 with the first nine holes. Homer Fieldhouse, a respected Wisconsin golf course architect who designed dozens of courses across the Midwest, laid out the original nine holes in 1968 and added a second nine in 1970. A third nine was completed in 1991, creating a full 27-hole resort facility. Some records show later renovation work on the layout in the late 1980s/early 1990s by R.C. Greaves, giving the course its current character of three distinct nines (typically called Red, White, and Blue).
